Why I Shower In The Dark!

My good girlfriend and I video chat a lot, and I would often notice her enter into her bathroom with the lights being off. This was weird to me, because I almost ALWAYS turn the lights on, no matter the time. I asked her reason for doing this to which she explained, her bathroom had enough light (from surrounding area) for her to use it without actually turning said lights on. I never thought about it until one day I took a shower with the lights off and never looked back.

I usually start my showers by running the water (combination of hot & cold) to achieve the perfect water temperature before I get in. It usually takes a few short minutes and I am ready to go.

This particular morning, I started my shower routine with the lights being off and I instantly felt relaxed. I had this sudden sense of calm and soothing aura surrounding me. I got lost in the tranquility of the running water and warmth that emanated from the shower.

Why Did I Start?

It was a random act that may not be so random after all. I woke up with a migraine (I suffered for years), went to the bathroom and did not turn the lights on. If you suffer from migraines then you know light can be a huge trigger. I realized that my friend may be right after all, the surrounding lights may just be enough.

How I Felt?

The lights are off, the water is running, I step in. I instantly become at peace, my mind is clear and my environment is serene. I forgot I was in my own bathroom, that’s how peaceful it was. I started to realize I created my own (selfcare) bubble I didn’t know I needed. My showers are warm and while I stand underneath the running water, I escape into a peaceful realm which offers me clarity.

I created a spa like environment that sets the tone for my days and my nights. I was never one for routines but this is one I will repeatedly use. I have candles I did not light, music I did not play; the darkness of the room and the sound of running water was enough for me.

Would I Recommend?

Yes! I think you should create a shower routine that sets the tone of your day and night. I understand the hustle and bustle of everyday life but it’s worth it. Even if you don’t want complete silence or darkness. Light a candle, play your favourite songs, create a relaxing vibe.

Considering everything that is currently happening in the world at the moment, we need to find things that bring us joy and peace.

Do you have a shower routine?

Great read I really enjoyed it hun, I’ve had candles lit while having a bath and it was quite relaxing but I cannot tell the last time I’ve done this for myself as I don’t get time with these kids lol but I must say I feel inspired and will make time. Self care is everything!!
